#New TYPO3 Extension Repository launching We are proud to announce the new TYPO3 Extension Repository (TER). It has beeen moved from typo3.org to a new subdomain extensions.typo3.org. Our focus is, to provide all existing functionality in the new TER as well. ##What changes for you? First of all, you need to go to the new domain. We added redirects for all links to extension detail pages and extension downloads. When searching for extensions you will miss the filter possibility which was removed for the new search as a start. For extension owners there should be no changes managing your extensions. You can upload your new version via SOAP and via website form as before. ##LDAP login With the launch of extensions.typo3.org you are only able to login if you are in LDAP yet [link article]. If you occuring problems by e.g. transferring an extension key to an non-existing user, contact the t3o team. The TER is a mirror of the complete TYPO3 project. I want to give you a small recap about the past, present and future of the TYPO3 Extension Repository. ##The past The TYPO3 Extension Repository was first built by Kasper himself 2003 to give developers the possibility to upload their extensions. It was the first kind of "app store" we know of. All extensions for free of course. Over the years the TER grows with the number of extensions. On the last successful relaunch of typo3.org, some people used this possibility to create a new TER frontend. It was implemented 2011 during the typo3.org relaunch week in Essen. The extensions were listed out of a Solr index and a nice GUI for managing your extensions. This was needed due to the lack of managing them in the Extension Manager after TYPO3 4.5. ##The present As introduced in the header of this article we had three targets with the new TER: 1. Keep all functionalities 1. Use an up-to-date TYPO3 version 1. Use a responsive design We used the old extensions (one for TER base functionality, one for TER Frontend) and refactored them running under TYPO3 v8 and PHP 7. Then we rebuild all templates for the new design which is based on Bootstrap v4. Also, we are happy to have a good workflow behind with a deployment which is built with GitLab CI and Docker images. ##The future Next to fixing some bugs and design issues we also will focus on new features for the TER after the launch. We will have a possibility to give feedback on every page of the new TER, you please use it. Our plans for the next months is to stabilize the TER and merge the currently two extensions into one. After that we want to look for more possibilities uploading an extension. We have the possibility via upload form on the website and via SOAP. This is still used by many extension authors in connection with their CI tools. The target for the next two years will be that an extension owner only needs to register an extension key and then insert a Git repository. All information of the TER output will be taken from that repository. With a new tag/release in this repository, TER will release a new version, too. Some other minor plans are: * Read out composer.json for more information * Provide composer require <package> commands for easy copy and paste * Show a chart with downloads by time instead of downloads by version * Improve the search to be more intuitive ##Big thanks There are plenty of people who must be thanked very much. It would break the article by naming them. I want to thank every contributor of the t3o team, the server team, the design team and all participants of the Design Contest for their input, their time and all their love putting in this project.
