##Different business model. ## ##Established firms do not have the expertise, capital equipment or business models for provision of load balancing services. Established behemoths are at a disadvantage because of conflicting interests, massive legacy debts, the requirement of providing returns on existing equity, and the fact that managerial time and talent is focused on prior problems (like decommissioning nuclear plants; like managing several hundred billion euros worth of assets). ## ##What's more, there is not yet much of a market for innovative storage solutions. ## ##The German electricity grid will not collapse this summer even if solar output exceeds total German power consumption (and even while nuclear plants and some coal plants cannot be turned off). The reason: Sweden, Austria and Switzerland can shut down all their hydroelectric generators and buy cheap German output. ## ##It is hard to compete with existing capital (until daytime electricity gets much cheaper and more abundant than it is today).
